Electronic Poker is a popular game that can be bet on in casinos throughout the globe, or alternatively at your house on your personal computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player attempting to achieve the greatest mixture of cards possible in order to come away with money. In this respect it’s much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the line of contact with any other players. Of course, methods used in a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A hand of 5 cards will be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.
The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.
After the enthusiast has decided on which cards she would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are dealt if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Normally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can range from game to game, so that discerning gamblers are agile enough to choose the most money-making ones each and every time.
Once the first round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that might been won. Further, a few versions of the game allow the player a chance to increase their profits, in which case a further round is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
