Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be played in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through a net account. The regulations are very simple and involve the player attempting to get the highest mixture of cards possible in order to come away with money. In this respect it’s much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and presses the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be "given out" on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and players will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.
After the bettor has chosen which cards he wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards are handed out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payout schedule can range from game to game, so that experienced enthusiasts are agile enough to pick the most profitable game every time.
Once the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that has been won. Additionally, several styles of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their wins, in which situation another round is played. There are also differences among individual machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
